Cremation Estate Rendering: Melvin Cremation Estate
The Melvin Cremation Estate is a thoughtfully crafted memorial design anchored in both symbolism and family intention. The design process began with a unique client request: to model the estate’s aerial footprint after the shape of the letter “U” as seen in the Urbana block logo—representing unity, continuity, and embrace. This U-shaped layout became the guiding form, carefully adapted to the triangular constraints of the family’s plot within the cemetery.
Working within strict spatial limits, we focused on symmetry, flow, and dignity. The centerpiece—positioned at the base of the “U” rather than the opening—features a commanding jet black die with a soft grey apex top, flanked by vertical columns. This not only mirrors the inspiration photo provided by the family but sets the tone for the entire structure. Built-in cremation niches were incorporated beneath custom benches along the arms of the "U", maximizing both form and function. At the opening ends of the memorial, standalone cremation units provide additional niche space, framed with column details that echo the main monument’s vertical lines.
Material selection was intentional throughout: jet black granite, soft grey accents, and harmonized textures to reflect permanence and elegance. By transforming a family’s abstract vision into an architectural composition—while juggling plot restrictions, layout geometry, and cultural symbolism—this estate demonstrates how memorial design can merge technical constraints with emotional depth
